Keeping Developers and Council Accountable

GlebeDeveloper.com focusses on ensuring that full disclosure is made regarding the impacts of developers plans in Glebe and Forest Lodge, which come under the Sydney City Council area, and the Leichhardt Local Environment Plan (previously managed by Leichhardt Council). Often many serious adverse impacts of Development Applications are hidden in hundreds of pages of documentation from developers. The site GlebeDeveloper.com exposes the most serious impacts and provides a meaningful starting point for submitting a considered objection to City of Sydney council.

All the issues listed here will identify the problem, make reference to the specific place in the Development Application document(s) which create the impact, and also reference Council or other documentation which shows that the DA is non-compliant.

Council Determination on Forest Lodge Development in Hereford Street

The City of Sydney Council laid out a set of reasons for rejecting the development application D/2008/270 at 61-63 Hereford Street Forest Lodge (Glebe).

The developer attempted to modify the development by making an insignificant change to the most prominent unit - without addressing any of the other serious issues, such as the serious adverse impact on the significant historical Port Jackson Fig tree on the property.

The council determination has taken into consideration many of the objection points raised here and by other members of the community, concerned about the impact of these developments on the local area. It is clear that significant re-think by the developer would be required to come up with an acceptable solution.

See the attached files for the full council determination.

Land & Environment Court Proceedings

The Council received 65 submissions during December 2008 from local residents regarding the latest building development plans submitted for 61-63 Hereford Street, Forest Lodge, highlighting the serious level of community concern over this development.

At the s34 mediation conference held on Dec 22 in the Land & Environment Court, the Council decided to end the mediation at that point, and requested the proceedings move to a full and binding hearing in the Land & Environment Court. The Council also consented to allowing the developer to lodge further amended plans with the Court.
